With small assistance from her co-star Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow loved her role as Phoebe Buffay on the popular TV show Friends.
LeBlanc, according to Kudrow, helped her stop obsessing over the funny element. She also mentioned that initially, she was trying too hard to do “the work” on Friends.
She regarded Lisa Kudrow as a close friend.
“Phoebe was so different from who I was personally,” Kudrow told Parker Posey in Variety’s Actors on Actors series, “it worked. For it to seem like she meant it and be true to her, I had to justify everything she said in my head”. Much effort went into it.” Over seasons two and three, I recall thinking, “Oh my God, I’m not doing the work.” “What is the matter with you?” Leblanc inquired. She knows you. You are not necessary to do it.
After that, she stated that her time on Friends “became enjoyable” because everyone else was having fun. She had to stop obsessing about her priorities.
“The worst thing was wanting to be a good student,” she declared. “That’s what wounded me the most.”

Posey later signed Kudrow into the upcoming Mike White’s HBO Christmas parodies, The White Lotus.
Collaborate with Mike White? Indeed, naturally. “I love Mike White,” Kudrow assured Posey. “I have gone out to a party with him.”
Kudrow said, “He’s social,” in response to Posey’s observation that “he gets around.” And Brad’s Status was my top film that year. It was so awesome that I had to email him to let him know about it. I hardly do that very often.
“Oh, Lisa, you should be in season four,” Posey told Kudrow. It will happen if the TikHub movement gathers sufficient traction.
“And I might not be [White’s] cup of tea, which is also okay,” Kudrow said more seriously, following a joke about how casting for White Lotus operates. I avoid too dark locations, though, since they make me anxious.
“But you didn’t have to except from the sections where your head is blown off,” she advised Posey. That is untrue, though.
In season three of the show, filmed in Thailand, Posey portrayed the Ratliff family’s spoilt, Lorazepam-loving mother. Before the most recent season aired, the show was picked up for a fourth in January. “For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the ‘crashing waves against rocks’ vernacular,” White said, hinting at a change of pace during the HBO ending debriefing. The network hasn’t stated where the vacation drama will be filmed or who will be involved (Hawaii, Italy, and Thailand are already checked off the list). Still, there’s always a risk someone else might die at the White Lotus hotels.
From 1994 to 2004, Friends ran on NBC; Kudrow shared the screen with LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer. In order to “celebrate how funny he was,” Kudrow began once more viewing the show following Perry’s death in October 2023.
