Although millions of people enjoy animated movies, everyone has different ideas about what makes them great. Even if sometimes the most praised films have shortcomings, underappreciated gems deserve more love. Today we’re looking at some unpopular opinions on popular animated films—hot takes that might shift your favorites! 10. Frozen is Overrated (And Tangled is Better) Why is it unpopular?* Though many supporters contend Tangled has a tighter narrative, better pacing, and more endearing characters, Frozen became a worldwide phenomenon. The songs (though excellent in Frozen) don’t overwhelm the story like Let It Go did; Rapunzel and Flynn Rider’s chemistry feels…
James Gunn talks about the choice to cut out a specific scene from the DC Universe episode’s Superman film trailers. Almost here is the much awaited premiere of the DC Cinematic Universe (DCU) franchise, Superman, and director James Gunn has been open with information about the movie thus far. Early in 2025, Gunn responded to the mixed response to a David Corenswet Superman trailer by stressing that the actor’s face was entirely CGI-free. Gunn revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that the theatrical edit would not show that particular view of Corenswet’s Superman flying. “Was that telling, when…
Neither Danny Boyle nor Alex Garland have clearly decided upon anything. For instance, Boyle’s direction and Garland’s writing in 2002’s 28 Days Later brought in a new age of zombie movies with its frantic, blood-gushing hordes. (I realize, it’s more precisely “infected” than “zombies with reanimated bodies.”). It piqued public interest in epic, apocalyptic tales as well as the Walking Dead specifically. Now, over twenty years after the end of the world, popular TV shows are Fungal Armaments and Civilization-razining breakouts. Boyle and Garland mainly missed the 2007 Weeks, but they make a triumphant comeback in 28 Years Later, revitalizing an overdone genre. There is not one obvious choice found. For instance, it begins with the Teletubbies; Tinky-Wingo shows up out of nowhere. A horrible opening flashback with dark humor depicts a group of adults furious by something before you can say “Big hug!” Attacked are a group of Scottish children. Yes, our path continues with a leap to the British Isles, cut off from the rest of the world 28 years later. The sick hunt the wilds even now. On Lindisfarne, sometimes known as Holy Island, there is a civilization of survivors. A causeway links the island to the mainland and only allows crossing when the tide goes out. Twelve-year-old Spike lives there; he has never been anywhere he could not see the ocean (Alfie Williams, a fantastic new talent). “It’s so big,” says Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s father Jamie as he brings him onshore for the first time. Seeing 28 Years Later is a horrific experience in and of itself. There are several audacious decisions. The infected are not only utterly crazy but also utterly naked. Jodie Comer’s character Isla is sick and losing her mind throughout the movie. Introduced, she yells, “Are you trying to kill our fucking baby, you cunt?!” Ralph Fiennes’s mysterious Dr. Kelson looks like Colonel Kurtz but speaks in the manner of the M. Gustave of the Grand Budapest Hotel. Shot in startling multi-angle cuts, it partially replics and enhances Days’ scuzzy digital-camcorder style using iPhones. Camera rigs in bullet-time catch the kills. Years explores a post-technological Britain steeped in rural traditionalism through poignant and almost mythological passages, contrasting with the thin, savage original.Boyle and Garland are running through a lot of ideas. 28 Years Later has many thematic resonances that would help to portray a crisis of national identity. Drawing a startling parallel to a nation experiencing isolationism, the Brexittorn United Kingdom cut off from the rest of the world and its people from their homeland. Boyle frequently cuts to black-and-white material from the World War as the post-apocalyptic society develops, evoking both the medieval fortress and the Blitz attitude of war austerity. Has Britain gone back to its illusive “good old days”? Is tenacity always a reverse step?Years is more about fiction than reality; one of its themes is the value of self-stories, the myth-making process that produces a nation.Though subtly woven, those high ideas are vibrant. Don’t worry; 28 Years Later is an intense, pure horror experience bursting with adrenaline. Though the mainland is always on edge, everyone is on edge when the infected show here and shows up in plenty. They have also advanced; hints of “I Am Legend” point to the infected might have evolved into a different culture. “Fast ones,” “slow ones,” and most shockingly, the rock-solid “Alphas,” who have a taste for ripping spines from victims in a way reminiscent of the Predator, comprise the Last of Us-style variety. Particularly remarkable is the first half of the film, which provides an intense horror exercise boosted by Young Fathers’s excellent score. That means the second section is not quite so constrictive. Every second is fresh; it never gets old. Although this is a disorganized coming-of-age narrative, that is deliberate. Certain people will be unhappy. Apart from Comer’s exceptional performance supporting a difficult-to-understand character, there are few cases of dubious computer-generated imagery (an unconvincing herd of deer) and minor pacing mistakes. There are two more movies in the series, thus the ending leaves viewers wondering.Still, this is bold, potent stuff. Boyle and pure Garland coincide. While Spike’s opening, set to the “Lust For Life,” conjures up a great Trainspotting atmosphere, music from Garland’s ethereal Annihilation and folkloric Men permeates the entire show. Still pure 28 is the sequel the original deserves, with a crazy last-minute that will split audiences and be the most contentious ending of 2025. Among the several decisions a movie makes, this one is the most least obvious. Getting it would be a blessing.

Filmmaker of “Elemental,” Peter Sohn, will direct “The Incredibles 3” for Disney and Pixar. This is the first without Brad Bird at direction. Bird wrote and directed The Incredibles, 2004 original adventure and 2018 follow-up, Incredibles 2. Bird left the threequel’s director, but the exact reason is unknown; the Pixar veteran will still be a producer and screenwriter, though. One could find the reason for conflicts in scheduling. Bird is working on the historical drama “1906” for Disney and the futuristic “Ray Gunn” for Skydance; the dates for those films are unknown. Bob and Helen Parr, better known as Mr.…
